Maxillofacial – Somatic Prosthesis
Patient suffered orbital exenteration (loss of both upper and lower eyelids and eye due to cancer). Surgery could not restore the massive loss of tissue and eye. We rehabilitated the area in our office and on-site FDA laboratory.
Patient came to our office after suffering exenteration. This picture shows the major setback with resulting open cavity.
Maxillofacial prosthesis was created and fitted in our office by Carole Lewis Stolpé. Each maxillofacial prosthesis starts with intricate handcarving in wax.
Patient continues with a personal fitting in our office by Carole Lewis Stolpé. Once the soft prosthesis is fabricated in our on-site lab, it is tried and placed.
Next, facial tinting and intricate texturing of the prosthesis is undertaken to blend with surrounding skin for the most natural appearance.
Patient’s self- esteem is restored. SMILES – as patient knows she can face the world confidently once again.
